What is blepharitis?
Blepharitis is a long-lasting inflammation of the eyelids. It often affects both eyes, and symptoms can come and go.
What might I notice?
Symptoms can include itchy or gritty eyes, burning, redness, and flakes or crusts around the eyelashes. An eye examination helps confirm the cause.
What can help?
Your eye-care professional may recommend regular eyelid cleaning and, where appropriate, eye drops or other treatment. The full leaflet explains eyelid care in more detail.
What should I do next?
Ask your eye-care professional to demonstrate a suitable eyelid-care routine. Contact your care team if symptoms worsen, including worsening redness, soreness, itching or vision. Use prescribed medicines as directed.
