What is a cataract?
A cataract is clouding of the eye’s natural lens. It can make sight misty or blurred and may cause glare in bright light.
What does surgery involve?
The cloudy lens is removed and usually replaced with an artificial lens inside the eye. Your care team will assess your eye and discuss the expected benefits and risks.
What should I prepare for?
Attend your pre-assessment and follow your care team’s instructions. Recovery varies, and you may still need glasses. Read the full leaflet for risks, preparation and aftercare.
When should I contact my care team?
Tell your doctor about persistent eye pain or decreased vision after surgery. Contact the hospital if symptoms are severe or persist. Keep your follow-up appointments and follow your prescribed aftercare.
