Understanding dry eye
A quick guide for patients
What is dry eye?
Dry eye can occur when your eyes do not produce enough of the watery part of tears, or when other components of the tear film are insufficient.

Why do tears matter?
The tear film covers the surface of your eye and helps you see clearly. Problems with this film can affect eye comfort and vision.
What can contribute to it?
The leaflet describes several possible contributors, including eyelid inflammation—such as blepharitis—and problems with normal blinking.
What should I do next?
Speak to your eye-care professional about your symptoms. They can assess the cause and explain which care options suit you.
