A quick guide for patients
What is uveitis?
Uveitis is inflammation affecting one or more parts of the uveal tract inside the eye. It may affect the front, middle or back of the eye, or involve all three areas.
What might I notice?
Symptoms vary and may include pain, redness, sensitivity to light, floaters or reduced vision. Some forms, particularly in children, may cause little obvious pain or redness.
How is it treated?
An eye examination and sometimes further tests help identify the cause. Treatment is tailored to that cause; there is no single treatment suitable for everyone.
Why is early assessment important?
Untreated uveitis can lead to complications that harm vision. Seek prompt eye-care assessment if you suspect it. Use eye drops or other medicines only as prescribed and follow your clinician’s review plan.
